ANIMAL FACILITY ACCESS

Staff

Access to animal facilities requires authorization from Animal Facility management.

Access will be granted to staff of Orbeli Institute of Physiology only if these people:

• Are on the personnel list of an active animal use protocol
• Have completed Occupational Health and Safety training and IACUC Basic Training program for Animal Users

To request access the principal investigator (PI) associated with the animal use protocol must submit an email request to Animal Facility Manager. If the request is submitted by research team member, the PI must be copied on the email.

The following information is required:

• Name of the person who needs access
• Protocol number of the study to which the person is assigned

Visitors

A Visitor is any individual that is not an Orbeli Institute of Physiology staff with authorization to enter an Animal Facility

Visitors can access Animal Facility under following conditions:

• Before entry, visitor must be approved by the Animal Facility Manager
• Approval will be given only to individuals who have a valid reason to visit
• All visitors entering an animal facility must be accompanied by an approved designated escort
• No visitors under 18 are allowed to enter an animal facility
• Visiting authorization waiver form should be completed prior to the visit – link to the form Visitor authorization waiver

Breaches to this policy should be reported to the IACUC for further investigation
